IBC Online Students Have a Lot to Say!

If you’re considering IBC’s online classes but you’re not sure how much you’ll like them or what the benefits are, read these real-life stories from some of our current and past students.

Sherri Morris

Academic Program: Business Management
Residence: Columbus, OH
Career Goals: To obtain a management position in my current career.

"Prior to taking online courses I never thought I would be able to go to college. I really did not have the time for anything. I soon discovered that I was able to go to college and I could do it at my own pace and schedule. Once I get off of work around 5:00 p.m. on Mondays I check my assignments and the rest of the week I do a little at a time. Most of the time I finish up my work on the weekends while watching TV with my stepdaughter. My stepdaughter thinks it’s wonderful that I have homework just like her. She asks me what I'm doing and I tell her my math homework, and she giggles because she can watch TV while I'm doing my homework. Online courses are better for me because I can sit down at home and do my work, and then I can make dinner or do laundry at the same time, so it really does not interfere with my personal life. I can read the chapters assigned for the week, and the next day I can start on my assignments and continue working on them the rest of the week until they are done. I love the fact that Indiana Business College is helping me achieve my goals."

Academic Program: BS in Business Management/Marketing
Residence: Brownsburg, IN
Career Goals: Career growth and eventually starting a marketing business with my husband.

"When I was confronted with the “nightmare” of a degree being necessary for promotion I almost gave up. I have a full-time day job and a part-time evening job (neither of which I could eliminate), two teenagers, a husband and church activities; needless to say, this didn’t leave any time for school in my mind.

A co-worker had graduated from IBC and suggested I look into the online courses. I did, and “voila!” a solution to my predicament. I am able to take my entire course online which gives me the flexibility I needed to get the degree career advancement demanded. I have had a few scheduling issues but the entire staff at IBC has gone above and beyond to help me stay in school.

Thank you to everyone at IBC!"

Kevin W. Shafer

Academic Program: Business Administration - Management
Residence: Harrisonville, PA
Career Goals: I would like to continue my education and get my Bachelor’s Degree and be in a Management position after I graduate.

"Prior to enrolling in IBC’s online college I had no idea how much work I was in for. This is a lot different than high school that’s for sure. My grades are better in college than in high school. I have been on the Dean’s List for the first two quarters of my enrollment. It seems like the quarters go by so quickly. I get started and then it’s mid-term, then finals.

I usually try to complete my work at the beginning of the week. That way if something comes up my work is already completed. When I do have extra time I get started on the following week. I work anywhere from 40-50 hours a week, take evening class, plus I have a family. My time is pretty full! I still make A’s in my classes; if you prioritize your time you can make it work. Set a goal and work at it!"

Jacqueline A. Eldon

Academic Program: Business Administration
Residence: Abaco, Bahamas
Career Goals: Reach management level.

"Prior to becoming an online student, my life as I knew it was working a 9 to 5 job, maintaining full responsibility of the running of our home, providing my husband assistance with his small business, preparing three meals a day and putting our two children through college. The option to pursue a college education for myself was unthinkable and not at all probable.

Through online courses IBC has given me a new lease on life. From the time I viewed their friendly website describing their college and what it has to offer and speaking with professionals about enrollment, I had no doubt that I could complete my education and with none other than IBC.

The faculty and staff at IBC possess high standards of interpersonal skills, a thorough knowledge of the programs offered, and the capability of sharing a sincere, caring interest in each student’s future and progress. Their willingness to assist in every way possible is remarkable and unmatchable demonstrating an ambiance of daily encouragement and a sincere dedication and devotion to IBC and the success of each student, has made it all possible for me. IBC has empowered me to fulfill my desire to further my education and to see that it can be accomplished.

IBC’s excellent, well-structured online courses geared for distance learning have opened avenues for me that I would never have dreamed existed. The classes are designed with each individual’s needs in mind and the support given makes it all possible.

Each week I attend the class by logging into the classroom. I take a look at the week’s curriculum and set out to read over the material and assignments required. I highlight any important information presented by the instructors and make notes of deadlines. This way I can schedule the allotted time I need for study. After I complete the assignments I attend the discussion sessions more prepared to contribute my best and converse with other online students.

It is truly a life-changing and joyous experience to see myself unfold and to be all that I CAN BE."

Academic Program: Accounting - Associate of Applied Science Degree
Residence: Lafayette, IN
Career Goals: My career goals are to become a successful individual out in today’s workforce. I want to work within a business environment big or small doing what I love to do, working with numbers and people.

"I never thought in a million years that I would be able to fit college into my schedule. I tried college right out of high school and it just wasn’t right for me at that point. After having two children I decided to attend college on a campus. With the cost of childcare, I had no choice but to take night courses, but I couldn’t keep up with the demand. Now with four children and a husband who serves as a recruiter for the Marine Corps, I am more determined than ever to get my degree. I started to take online courses last quarter and I love every minute that I’m logged on. Family and friends still don’t know how I manage to do my schooling and everything else that happens on a daily basis. However, I still seem to manage to complete my studies and have that quality time to spend with the ones who mean the most to me: my children.

Taking online courses has given me the opportunity to be here for my children whenever they need me. I don’t have to worry about childcare expense or missing class time if my children become ill. I am able to log on any part of the day and stay connected with my instructors and classmates. Having done classes on campus and online, I can honestly say that online classmates are more open for discussion than in a traditional classroom setting. I enjoy the fact that I log on every Monday morning, start my classes, and am able to deal with my kids and do my homework at the same time.

I also enjoy the fact that I am able to view my schedule for the entire quarter so if I have an appointment come up or a vacation planned I can complete an extra week’s worth of assignments ahead of time."

Tracy Edwards

Academic Program: Accounting - Associate of Applied Science Degree
Residence: South Bend, IN
Career Goals: More challenges at work.

"I have been with the same company for 11 years and am looking for something more challenging. After five years of debating with myself I went online and looked up colleges with online classes. I found three that would fit my needs, but only IBC seemed to take me seriously. They were very prompt in responding to my inquiry about online classes. I'm a single mom of two boys that I can never leave alone for too long.

IBC was the best choice I could have ever made. I check into my classes at least three to four times a week, for an hour or so. The instructors are very prompt in answering questions through e-mail, and they also give their phone numbers in case of major problems. I have yet to feel there is a question that someone can't answer.

I recently filled out a survey about my classes and the staff. IBC was just wondering how I was doing and if there was anything they needed to work on. I didn't have any complaints."
