What People Have to Say About IBC

At IBC, we believe we truly do change people’s lives. And what better way to illustrate that than with their own words.

Director of Financial Aid
IBC – Terre Haute

"I was once in your shoes. In 1994 I had a desire to go to college and have a career I would be proud of. I tried to go to other colleges but didn’t seem to find anyone that really had my best interest in mind. I was discouraged and one day saw an advertisement for IBC and thought why not give it one more shot. To this day I could not be more proud of my decision. My admissions rep at the time really took me in and instantly became a friend to me and helped me to decide what I was looking for.

I was still a little nervous because of financial aid. How was I going to pay for college? The financial department was very helpful with all of the forms, and they helped me to find a plan to best suit me. When I graduated the lifetime placement assistance helped in finding me the career I have today.

IBC really was good at helping me realize what the future value of my education was and the potential that I had to succeed with a career once I graduated. The classes were all focused on what skills I needed and how to polish them to be who I am today. In my opinion, there is no price you can put on someone who cares. IBC really cares about students and really wants them to succeed."

"The benefit of an education does not have a defined dollar amount. Education is priceless. The immediate costs and fees of an education pale in comparison to the personal satisfaction individuals receive from sharing with their friends, family and colleagues that they have completed a degree. The pride that is associated with being a college graduate is a satisfying feeling that no student loan balance can diminish.

I am a perfect example of an Indiana Business College 'investor.' I graduated from IBC with an Associate Degree in 1999 and have gone upwards and onwards since. I have achieved several of my own personal goals and made an example for my children as well as other family members as a professional. I am proud of my success and am an advocate for making the decision to invest in your future."

"During the spring of 2003, I worked in a café at a local hospital in Ft. Wayne. I met a dynamic mother and daughter, Beverly and Ashlee, who taught me the ropes of my position as a Hospitality Specialist. I remember having many heartfelt conversations with them at work about what their hopes and dreams were for the future. Many of these brainstorming sessions were often sparked when others within the hospital would place judgment on café workers. It saddened me. I’ll never forget the time when Beverly wanted to take a free medical class that was being offered through the hospital but was denied seating because “she worked in the café.

That July, I was hired at Indiana Business College as an Admissions Representative. During my first year, I made several calls to Beverly and Ashlee to encourage them to check out the college and explore various medical careers. In January 2005, I received a phone call from Beverly! She was tired of being turned down for various jobs within the hospital and began questioning her self-worth. I remember her saying, “I don’t think I’m smart enough for college!” After two very emotional career planning sessions, I recommended that Beverly and Ashlee begin classes in our Surgical Technology program. Many unexpected opportunities began to surface for the mother and daughter during their journey at IBC including health problems, a newborn, job threats, divorce and class retakes. Yet through hard work, determination and continued passion of staff, faculty and instructors, Beverly and Ashlee graduated together on Saturday, April 26, 2008! What an amazing moment it was to watch them walk down the stage together!

IBC changes lives for a lifetime! And, I feel very blessed to be a part of it."

"An IBC education is really an investment in yourself. I made this very same investment in myself.  It has been some of the smartest dollars I ever spent on 'me.' The only thing I would change, if I could, is I would have invested when I graduated from high school instead of waiting until I was 36 years old. It would have given me a longer period of time to use the education I acquired from IBC to continue investing in my family and my future.

The best part of my position as a financial aid analyst isn’t the paycheck. Yes, it’s nice, but it is a byproduct. The real reward is when a potential graduate comes into my office fearing they “won’t be able to afford to go to school.” However, once we work with the numbers to see what the student qualifies for and put the plan together, that student now sees that a college degree IS affordable.

No one can put a price on your education! And that is the one thing that nothing in this world can take away from you. I feel that the more you learn, the more you know!  And the more you know, the more you grow! That education just keeps giving and giving and giving."

"When I started working as an Admissions Representative at IBC, I thought I was just taking another position in public relations. Little did I know I was going to experience something so much greater than just a job, but an opportunity to make a difference in my life by helping others improve their lives with education.

I have met with people that are so intelligent and have so much to give, but are not taken seriously because they have a GED. One young lady I met with years ago received her GED while taking care of a disabled parent and two younger siblings. When she met with me she realized that she actually had a chance to improve her future. Since then she has graduated, is working as an office manager, married and has children of her own.

There are others who find themselves in situations where their marriage is either unstable or ends unexpectedly, making them the sole provider for their family. One student I met with was in a situation where she would be providing for her family alone within two years. I set a plan for her education on a pace that allowed her to complete her degree in the time she needed it, but gave her flexibility in that very stressful time  with her family.

Why commit to the desires of a college degree? What makes it worth the effort? Some people are born with the confidence to do it, some are put in situations that drive them to do it and some hit rock bottom and pull themselves up and out with education. I cry at every graduation. When I look at the graduates, I can remember their initial thoughts. Some of them were fearful that they could not complete a college degree. Those who push beyond that and commit to the life that they want will make it. I am so glad to be a part of it."
